Throughout the Gita Govinda, the sense of touch is used to explore feminine and masculine sexuality as well as attitudes surrounding the experience of sex from the perspective of the male and the female. These nuanced ideas can be seen clearly in Krishna’s overall experience of Radha in the narrative, which tends to be raw, physically sexual, and carnal, whereas as Radha’s experience of Krishna tends towards the loving, the caring, and the nurturing. Krishna’s sexual appeal draws from his behaviors and his ornamentation whereas Radha’s sexual appeal derives directly from her physicality. On the other hand, the Ramayana presents a very different paradigm of sexuality and male-female relationships, where both men and women are highly sexualized and noted for their attractive physical features, or lack thereof. Both Rama and Sita are sensually described throughout the text, heavily emphasizing the aspect of sexual touch. By juxtaposing these texts, we are abl e gain further insight into gender stereotypes and bias of ancient Indian civilization. In the excerpt from page 143 to 147, Krishna speaks to Radha in an attempt to win her back with his eloquent words. Throughout this speech, Krishna uses powerfully sexual language in describing his love for Radha.
